Fortunately with my look -- the signature Roshumba look -- I have been able to do multiple advertising deals with Cover Girl Navy products, Oil of Olay, Sam Sung and covers for all the magazines. Boy there are so many things that have happened. I can't even begin to name them all, but it has been a great trip. I have been having a great time. I have met incredible men. I've made some money. I have this great place (gesturing at the room in her New York apartment), and everything is wonderful.


RR: This idea of supermodels has become a definition of the nineties woman. I think because prior to the idea of supermodels, we had models who were just vacuous personalities. Very few of them became anything other than a face on a magazine or a billboard somewhere. For you, what does that mean? You are considered a supermodel by many, many people. What does that really mean to you and how has it impacted your life?

Roshumba: First I'm going to speak of the origin of it. What I think has happened is that in the last ten years or so, actresses were considered the icons, the beauties, the people you dreamed of being, whether it was Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, or Carmen Jones or someone like that. What happened was Hollywood went street and a lot of the women lost their glamor in the search for whatever it was that they were searching for. But when the girls came along, such as myself, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi, Kate, we sort of stepped into their shoes because we had no problem with being glamorous. We were reaching a peak in our existence because we are able to ask for the prices we wanted and get them. Our images sell, people know our names, and I guess the image of the model has become so strong in these past ten years that basically the girls have just taken advantage of it. But I also think it's a reflection of where women have grown as
