"Sports Illustrated" Selects Cover Model for Swimsuit Issue, Er. . . Again

We reported on Friday that supermodel Eva Herzigova was the lucky winner as the cover girl for "Sports Illustrated" 's 1997 swimsuit issue. While she will appear on eleven pages inside the issue, alas, her lovely form will not be on the cover after all. Rumor has it that in yet another switch (first it was going to be Steffi Graff, then Eva) Elaine Farley, SI's new swimsuit editor has decided to put Tyra Banks (pictured at left) on the cov er. While we chided Farley on Friday for her questionable cover concepts, we applaud her highly today if in fact Tyra is her pick. Tyra will be the first African American to be on the cover by herself. She graced last year's cover, but shared the honor wi th white model Valeria Mazza. We're delighted. Tyra is most deserving of the distinction.

Claudia's Favorite Candy -- It Ain't Chocolate

There's a new reference book out for those who want to learn everything they can about Hollywood. Of interest to us was a list of movie actors, and their dressing-room fetishes, which appears in "Hollywood Confidential" written by Coral Amende. On the list appears Claudia Schiffer (pictured at right) who has made some very reasonable requests of the producers in whose movies she's appeared. According to the book, she likes to have Skittles -- sans the purple ones -- and mineral water in her dressing room when she appears for grooming. Why she dislikes the purple ones is beyond us. At least she has good taste in candy.

New Fashion Mag for Full-Figured Women

"Mode" is the name and larger-than-size-12 is the game. This new fashion magazine, started by two ex-publishers of Esquire and Mademoiselle, Nancy LeWinter Julie Nirenberg respectively, is scheduled to appear on a newsstand near you on Febru ary 25. "Mode," among other things, will feature a number of well-known and larger-than-Kate-Moss celebrities as models, such as Delta Burke. It also plans to publish a 100-man survey, which reveals that a majority of those asked think larger women make b etter lovers. Congratulations, "Mode"; finally something more than just girdle ads.
