With the shooting industry's emphasis on bringing in women and children, I wasn't surprised to see a lot of new products geared for those groups at the recent SHOT Show in Las Vegas.
The best one I saw was "The Hunting Game," an interactive CD-ROM game from Oquirrh Productions. The game is still under development, and the version I played with contained only the waterfowl hunting section. But it is a fast-moving, reasonably realistic, and challenging game, and should be interesting to kids.
The Hunting Game is scheduled for release on April 15, when it will join Oquirrh Productions's other CD creation, "Wildlife Forever." If "The Hunting Game" has anywhere near the sophistication and finesse of "Wildlife Forever," it should be a hot item for kids interested in the outdoors. This year New England Firearms is introducing its Super Light rifle in .223 Remington. This is an ideal around-the-farm varmint gun, and with a weight of only 5-1/2 pounds, is easy to carry.
