The initial impetus for the cultural project entitled "Las Edades del Hombre" came from the eleven dioceses of Castilla y Le≤n, which are the heirs and owners of a vast historical and artistic heritage. Through the moments of beauty which are works of art, the project attempts to bring to life the story of humanity in our region, of men and women that lived, cherished hopes, suffered and died. Men and women who, through their paintings, tapestries, books and musical writings have immortalised the memory of the Great Questions which have always formed the very essence of culture.

The project has been structured into four stages, held in the Cathedrals of Valladolid (October 1988), Burgos (May 1990), Le≤n (October 1991) and Salamanca (December 1993). It has received almost four million visitors. These four journeys into the inner nature of man -of every person- aimed to bring him face to face with himself through the most exquisite fruit of human intelligence: Art.
