Internet Service Host Page

Purpose

This page lets you specify whether or not this machine is a gateway machine responsible for connecting to the Internet and sending and receiving mail on behalf of the users in the workgroup. This page also lets you choose which dial up service to use in order to connect to the Internet and lets you specify the IP addresses of the relevant mail servers.

Usage

If this machine is a gateway machine then select the Gateway Machine radio button. If you select this radio button, all the other controls in this page will become enabled.

If you have a permanent connection to the Internet then select the Direct connection radio button otherwise select the Dial up radio button and choose a dial up service from the drop down list. You may create a new dial up service by pressing the New Connection button and following the steps in the Make New Connection wizard. You may edit the properties of a specific dial up service by selecting the service from the drop down list and pressing the Properties… button.

You should enter the IP address of your Internet provider's Mail Server in the Mail Server Address field. Typically, your Internet provider will use the same server to handle the sending and receiving of mail. If this is not the case, then enter the IP address of the SMTP server, to which your mail is sent, into the Mail Server Address field and press the Advanced button to display the Host Server Receive Address dialog box. In the Receive Server Address field, enter the IP address of the POP3 or SMTP server from which you receive your e-mail.

Your mail is always sent to an SMTP server. Usually, you will receive your mail from a POP3 server in which case you should select SMTP/POP3 from the Mail Server Type drop down list. If, instead, you receive your mail from an SMTP server then you should select SMTP Only from the Mail Server Type drop down list.
