The Content Explorer window is displayed.
Tree View
Content View
Content Explorer provides easy ways to find, preview, and insert blocks and drawing files. The Tree View is the left side of the Content Explorer when it's expanded. The tabs on the right side, or Content View, display thumbnail previews or descriptions of
- Drawing files in a folder
- Block definitions in a drawing
You can insert blocks or attach external references either by dragging or by specifying location, scaling, and rotation values.
Custom tabs that you create act as bookmarks for folders you use frequently, and you can save sets of tabs for later use.
You can move and copy drawing files between folders either by dragging from the current tab to other tabs or by using a dialog box.
File Menu
- Block Insert. Changes the operation of Content Explorer to Block Insert mode.

- Xref Attach. Changes the operation of Content Explorer to Xref Attach mode.

- Move Content. Moves selected drawing files to a different folder. Select the name of the destination tab name from the Move Contents dialog box.
- Copy Content. Copies selected drawing files to a different folder. Select the name of the destination tab from the Copy Contents dialog box.
- Close. Exits Content Explorer.
View Menu
- Toolbar. Displays or hides the toolbar.
- Status Bar. Displays or hides the status bar.
- Always on Top. Controls whether Content Explorer is always on top of other windows.
- Tree View. Displays or hides the Tree View.

- Find. Displays the Find window to locate files by specifying criteria.

- Icons and Names. Displays both names and icons for block definitions and drawings.
- Names Only. Displays names only for block definitions and drawings.
- Description. Displays a description of the selected drawing or block definition. This description
is limited to 256 ASCII characters and can be modified with BMOD.
- Preview.
Displays a thumbnail preview of the selected drawing or block definition.

- Refresh. Updates the information displayed in Content Explorer. Refreshes only the Tree View and the current tab.
Tab Menu
- Create. Displays the Create Tab dialog box to creates a new tab as a bookmark to the current folder.

- Rename. Displays the Rename Tab dialog box to rename the current tab.
- Delete. Deletes the current tab. Does not delete the associated folder or its contents.
- Open Tab Set. Displays the Open dialog box to restore a saved tab set.
- Save As Tab Set. Displays the Save As dialog box to save a set of tabs in a .set file.
- Merge Tab Set. Combines a tab set selected from the Merge dialog box with the current tabs.
Tree View
The expanded left side of the Content Explorer window, which displays a hierarchical list of folders and drawing files. Select a folder to display its drawing files in Content View. Select a file to display its blocks in Content View.
The default Content Explorer window, and the right side when Content Explorer is expanded, which displays icon images of blocks in a drawing or files in a folder. Content View includes at least two tabs:
- Current Dwg. Displays internal block definitions in the current drawing.
- Tree View. Displays internal block definitions in the current drawing currently selected in Tree View.
In Block Insert mode, you can drag a block reference or a drawing file to insert it as a block reference in the current drawing file or in a drawing file listed in Tree View. Double-click the block or file to specify insertion location, scale, and rotation values.
In Xref Attach mode, you can drag a drawing file to insert it as an external reference (xref) in the current drawing file or in a drawing file in Tree View. Double-click the file to specify insertion location, scale, and rotation values.
Preview and icon images in Content Explorer do not display text, wide polylines, 2D solids, raster images,
or object colors.
Note: Content Explorer does not support the special capabilities of the My Briefcase folder.
My Briefcase is treated in the same way as any other folder.
