A cutout is an area of a pictureGeneral term that includes photos, graphics, clip art, and objects. Any photo or project in this product. that you remove, which you can then use as a separate picture or objectA part of a picture, including shapes, text boxes, lines, or animations, that can be edited individually.. For example, you could make a cutout of a person from one picture, and then add the cutout to a photograph of different people.

You can create a cutout in four ways:
- Allow the Edge Finder to locate the exact edges of an area after you have indicated the approximate edges.
- Draw a cutout freehand by tracing around the area.
- Select a color in the picture and include all areas of the picture that have that color.
- Use a predefined shape to cover the area.
To trace the area manually:

Select the picture or object you want to edit.

On the Format menu, click Create a Cutout.

Click By tracing an area on my own.

To trace the edge, drag the cursor along the edge of the area you want to cut out.

Click the yellow diamond to close the cutout area.

Click Next.
 | Optional: Place the cutout.
- Under Where do you want to place the cutout, select whether to place the cutout in a separate picture or leave it in place as a duplicate image.

Click Done.
To use color selection:

Select the picture or object you want to edit.

On the Format menu, click Create a Cutout.

Click By color selection.

Under Click a selection mode, select whether the cutout will be added to or removed from an existing cutout. If you are creating a cutout for the first time, Add to cutout is selected by default.

Under Select areas, select whether the cutout should be only the area contiguous to where you click on the picture or should include all areas with the same color.

In the picture, drag the eyedropper across the colors you want to include.

Drag the sliderA control that sets values by sliding a marker to the left or the right. to increase or decrease the range of colors.

Click Next.

- Under Where do you want to place the cutout, select whether to place the cutout in a separate picture or leave it in place as a duplicate image.

Click Done.
To use the Edge Finder:

Select the picture or object you want to edit.

On the Format menu, click Create a Cutout.

Click With the Edge Finder.

Click along the edge of the object you want to cut out.

To close the outline, click the yellow diamond.

Adjust the outline by clicking and dragging the cutout boundary.

Under Edge Finder width, select the width of the trim box. The width of the trim box determines the area the Edge Finder will search to locate the exact edges of the object.

Click Next.
