Yakushima

Yakushima is an island that is full of natural heritage, including the Jomon cedar that is thought to be 7,200 years old. Mysterious forests cover 90 percent of the mountainous island with a circumference of 81 miles. More than 1,500 species of plants can be found on Yakushima. It was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1993.
