Shirakami-Sanchi Mountains
There are many areas in the Shirakami Mountains that have been barely touched by people. Its beech forest is one of the largest of its kind in the world. You can find many different types of plant life there, and it is also a treasure house of birds, animals and insects. It was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1993.
