CRT-Colour Monitors
The picture of monitors with CRTs is produced by an electron beam which makes phosphor points glow.
Depending on the intensity of the electron beam the three primary colours of red, green and blue. Three separate beams of electrons are used to make the respective phosphors glow. In order to make a picture out of various dots, the beam scans each point from left to right and from top to bottom controlled by magnetic fields. The necessary electromagnetic fields are produced in the so called 'deflection yoke'.

CRT Technologies
There are three CRT technologies on the market which differ from their mask technology: Shadow Mask, Aperture Grille, Cromaclear. The 'shadow mask' can be seen as a perforated sheet of metal with round holes. Cromaclear is a type of 'shadow mask' which uses slots rather than round holes in the mask. The 'aperture grille' consists of vertical stripes held under tension.
