Strata Forms Strategic Collaboration with Big Blue Strata/IBM Team Refines 3D/DV Production Pipeline on IntelliStation Strata Inc., the innovative developers of award-winning 3D design, multimedia and digital video software, today announced that the company is collaborating with IBMís Professional Workstation Group, a world-leading manufacturer of high-performance graphics workstations, in a venture to develop a cross-platform ìproduction pipelineî concept for 3D multimedia and digital video. Strata, which historically has published software primarily for the Macintosh, is launching Windows versions of its flagship 3D modeling, rendering and animation package, StudioPro, as well as its popular paint program MediaPaint and its desktop video editor VideoShop. All are set to be completed in 1998.
ìOur relationship with IBM adds enormously to our confidence and enthusiasm for entering the Windows world. In a Strata/IBM-designed 3D/DV pipeline, for example, a 3D model will be constructed and animated in StudioPro, then lightning , fire, laser, or other effects added using MediaPaint, and the final DV product assembled and completed in VideoShop. Many other scenarios are equally possible, all working across an NT network while still allowing Macs to tie in. In a professional studio environment, this will be invaluable.î -- Ken Bringhurst, Strata CEO
Strata and IBM engineers are working out the details to allow the Strata family of programs to be linked through a shared network. The network will consist of two or more IntelliStation M Pro machines -- each with dual Pentium II processors running at up to 300 MHz -- a shared disk array, and high-speed common connections provided by Pathlight Technology, Inc. Together, these components form the ìpipelineî through which 3D and DV projects can be moved seamlessly and efficiently towards final production.
ìStrata is a respected leader in the 3D modeling and desktop video worlds and its family of products makes it a perfect partner for developing the concept of a shared, superfast media production pipeline. A pipeline based on our IntelliStation M Pro machines and using Pathlightís ImageNetII technology for the connections will be wide and fast. Linking up StudioPro, MediaPaint, and VideoShop on this kind of setup provides unprecedented creative power. This is an important development sure to make a big impact.î

During Januaryís MacWorld tradeshow in San Francisco, Strata will be running NT versions of its software and demonstrating the 3D/DV pipeline utilizing three IntelliStations along with a Macintosh. Such demonstrations are also scheduled for several other venues during the first part of 1998, including MacWorld Tokyo in February, NAB in Las Vegas during April, and also during Strataís international usersí conference in April. ### |
