ZUBR CLASS (POMORNIK) AIR CUSHIONED LANDING CRAFT, RUSSIA The Zubr Air Cushion Landing Craft is built by the Almaz Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company in Saint Petersburg. Ten Zubr class ships, which are sometimes referred to by the NATO codename Pomornik, have been built since 1986. The Greek Navy is to buy four of the landing craft, one used and one new transferred from the Russian Navy and two used from Ukraine. The craft are to be upgraded and will be named: Kerkyra (L140), Kefallonia (L141), Kakynthos (L142) and Ithaki (L143). The mission of the ship is to carry out rapid sea-lift and beach landing of assault troops and combat materiel on territory held by hostile forces. The ship also provides fire support for the troop operations on shore. The ship is capable of laying active minefields.
