Workshop  |  XML (Extensible Markup Language)

xsl:script Element

Defines script, which can be used to define global variables and functions that extend XSL functionality.

Syntax

<xsl:script
    language="language-name" >

Attributes

language
Scripting language used in the content.

Element Information

Number of occurrences Unlimited
Parent elements xsl:stylesheet
Child elements (No child elements)
Requires closing tag Yes. XSL is an XML grammar and, like all XML grammars, all tags must have closing tags to satisfy the definition of well-formed.

Remarks

Variable declarations and function definitions can be specified within the xsl:script element. This can appear within the xsl:stylesheet, xsl:template, or xsl:define-template-set element. A script block thus nested is treated as a global script block.

Example

<xsl:stylesheet language="VBScript">
  <xsl:template match="*">
    <xsl:eval>Call Celsius(32)</xsl:eval>
  </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

<xsl:script language="VBScript">
  Function Celsius(fDegrees)
    Celsius = (fDegrees - 32) * 5 / 9
  End Function
</xsl:script>
