India Sites
Before you venture out to distant foreign lands, it would be a good
idea to examine one's own backyard. This is easier said and done,
as there are several India sites that are comprehensive, interesting
and useful. |
|
www.mapsofindia.com
is a good place to start off with. This site offers a range of maps-Clickable
Map, Tourist Map, Geological Map, and National Highway Network Map
of India, to mention just a few. Besides maps, it even allows a city
distance search that gives you the distances between various cities
and even a pin code search. The maps are interactive and the information
provided is detailed. Besides this, the site has a greeting cards
section and a news section that keeps you updated with the latest
news. It even offers information on the Indian economy, educational
institutions, etc as it has tie-ups with other portals. |
|
If
city maps and related information is what you are looking for, then
http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uk4u/indiamap.html
is a site you must visit. The maps here are mostly of major Indian
cities with a brief write-up on them. You can also download images
of some cities from this site. However, the maps are not very comprehensive. |
|
Although
www.imapindia.com
is an unofficial map site for India, they do have a good collection
of maps of Indian cities. Almost all the maps can be downloaded, the
clarity is good and they even have a zoom-in function. An interesting
feature of this site is that it has a collection of maps with legends
and labels in Hindi and Bangla. |
|
For
history (or is it geography?) buffs, www.freeindia.org/india_maps
is a must-visit site. Here, besides the standard modern maps, you
can find maps relating to India in ancient times-the extent of the
empires of various Indian emperors, colonial India, etc. |
