7. Paint Shop Pro 5.01
Paint Shop Pro has always been a top-class image manipulation application, and Version 5 cements it as one of the best programs for image manipulation for home and office. It's now filled to the brim with features.

8. DirectX Control Panel
Gain control of your DirectX drivers. This Control Panel extension allows you to see all the DirectX drivers in your system, and to adjust their settings.

9. PowerDesk Utilities 98
A substitute for Windows Explorer, PowerDesk gives you everything you need in one screen. In addition to the standard file view, you can open an independent second pane with another drive or folder in it, and also a preview pane which previews most common file formats. Each drive can be accessed from the toolbar, as can many useful functions and options.

10. SiSoft Sandra 98
Powerful information and diagnostic utility which tells you everything you need to know about your hardware and software. A Control Panel-like interface gives you easy access to information, and wizards help you collate information on various aspects of your system. The performance tune-up wizard gives you tips to show you how to improve system performance, although these tips tend to be of the 'consider buying a new processor' variety.
