JACC 1.0
JACC is short for Just Another Classic Calendar, but the application itself stands out through its elegance and simplicity. It can save memos for any day, and the memos are viewed in a slide-out side window, which can be left closed for privacy or to minimise space onscreen. The application is drag-and-drop savvy, so clippings can simply be dragged into the memo window.

JACC keeps track of when public holidays or other occasions should fall, and marks their dates in blue. Unfortunately, these can't be modified for local events, but on the whole the calendar works well.

PandeoCalendar
PandeoCalendar is even simpler than JACC, and has the distinction of allowing its appearance to be modified. In fact, that is the point of PandeoCalendar; there is a choice of simple colours or marble, wood or bark finishes for the frame in which it appears. The background colour, font and font size can also be modified, meaning that PandeoCalendar serves as an excellent time waster — but that hickory finish just doesn't work with my desktop. PandeoCalendar is a stylish calendar for the Mac that has everything.

XContact
XContact is an Internet-savvy address book which will run on any Mac younger than the 68020 processor. XContact's interface looks a little dated, but the feature set is surprisingly rich. As expected, a wealth of information about each contact can be included, from phone numbers through to Web sites. A sound can be recorded with each contact card, and PICTs such as company logos or photos can be attached. Searches can be run by company, name, location or group, and searching is done via an index which minimises memory use. Groups are user defined, and it can distinguish between personal and business contacts, or even between the customers of different products.

When first using XContact, the user is asked to identify their preferred browser and email client, and XContact uses Apple events to communicate with them. Clicking an icon next to the email address will open a new mail message addressed to that person. For users of other contact managers, XContact includes an import assistant module, to aid importing cards from text files.

XContact includes basic calendar and diary functions, and can sound alarms for events. A special mode prints the cards out in a summarised form, shaped and marked out to be made into a complete phone book. XContact can also be used to dial phone numbers, using a modem or using DTMF audio (on tone phones only) via the Mac speaker to dial phone numbers directly.

People Lister 1.0.1
People Lister is an alternative contact manager to XContact, aimed more at personal contacts. One of the most useful features of People Lister is the ability to not only include a person's birthday in their profile, but also to search through all profiles for upcoming birthdays, ideal for those of us with less than perfect memories. People Lister allows the field names to be customised for each profile, and connects using Internet Config to email clients for efficient messaging. The unregistered version is limited to only 25 contacts.

People Lister is a good alternative for people who don't need the features, cost or complexity of other contact managers.

MultiTimer
MultiTimer is an incredibly useful application for freelance workers, especially those who usually estimate low. Essentially, MultiTimer is a stopwatch-like application, which allows multiple job tasks to be tracked by creating timing modules for each. Start a new project, and start a new timing module. Each working session, hit the stopwatch and MultiTimer will record the session. After the computer is left unattended MultiTimer will ask if it should subtract the idle time. A log file is kept which shows a breakdown of time by day, week and project, and the total time — invaluable for anyone who wants to track their waste time or simply track work patterns day by day. This should be in any consultant or programmer's software arsenal.

MacBoy 2.0
MacBoy is a combination calendar, contact manager and personal organiser. It provides a full suite of organisation functions, with a to-do list, daily views allowing meeting scheduling, and project management views. Most functions are accessed via a series of pop-up buttons located at the bottom of the main window, providing access to the address book. This is really a catalogue of any number of customised cards, containing rectangular text boxes which form the basis for information storage throughout the application. Any new entry appears as a text box in the to-do list, which can be dragged onto any card in the left window. These components can contain any text, and must be resized within the card windows in order to be visible. These limit the use of MacBoy as a contact manager, but the ability to create unlimited new cards opens up MacBoy for all kinds of at-a-glance information storage. The diary and calendar functions are the most useful, and quick access is provided from the taskbar on the top left-hand side of the desktop when MacBoy is minimised.
