Release Notes - Microsoft SDK for Java Version 4.0

Welcome to the Microsoft® SDK for Java, version 4.0. The SDK for Java is designed to work with the award-winning Microsoft® virtual machine (Microsoft VM) as well as packages, tools, samples, and documentation. See the What's New section for details and for information about the new features and enhancements in this SDK release.

Note   Microsoft Application Foundation Classes (AFC) are not included in the SDK for Java. Versions 1.0.2 and 1.1 of AFC, the AWT2AFC tool, and all AFC documentation (in HTML Help format) are now available in the new Microsoft SDK for AFC This link takes you to a site on microsoft.com. AFC samples are included in both the SDK for Java and SDK for AFC. To run the AFC 1.0.2 samples, you must install the SDK for AFC and run AFC 1.0.2.

Note on product names used in this release:

  • When "Microsoft SDK for Java" is used, it refers to version 4.0 unless otherwise specified.

  • When "Microsoft® Internet Explorer" is used, it refers to version 4.0 or later unless otherwise specified.

  • When "Microsoft virtual machine" or "Microsoft VM" is used, it refers to the build of the VM that is shipped with the Microsoft SDK for Java version 4.0.

  • When "Microsoft® Visual J++® Compiler," "Java Language Compiler," or "jvc" is used, it refers to the build of the jvc that is shipped with the Microsoft SDK for Java version 4.0.

  • When "Microsoft® Windows NT®" is used, it refers to Windows NT 4.0 or earlier. The version beyond Windows NT 4.0 is called "Microsoft® Windows® 2000."
