Introduction

3DMark(tm) is a benchmark that focuses on testing 3D performance of modern 3D accelerators in a "real world" environment. As most users will use their 3D accelerator for playing games, so 3DMark focuses on this type of application of the majority of it’s results.

The 3DMark product line is a the most comprehensive benchmark platform available for testing future game performance. The input from our BETA program, game developers and users allows us to predict what is going to be important for future game playing. We are delighted to introduce 3DMark 99 Max as the next stage of benchmark evaluation. 3DMark 99 Max pushes forward yet again, the performance barrier and delivers on our promise to update the benchmark every six months.

The effect of this is that the performance focus now change from the original 3DMark 99 build 100. More emphasis is placed upon higher polygon scenes and lighting. This change comes just as "real world" games catch up to be more like the original spec of 3DMark. The forward-looking nature of 3DMark 99 Max therefore may now report a different performance order and scoring. Rest assured, 3DMark 99 Max reports only on performance and features and that are important for future 3D in Q3/99 and still offers you the most protection on your investment in 3D hardware.

We look forward to continuing to provide you with the most accurate assessment tools.

Focusing on Game Performance
In order to test the real gameplay situations we're using Remedy Entertainment's proprietary 3D game technology, Max-FX(tm). Using a state of the art engine for performance measurement guarantees that the results are comparable to the gaming world. It also guarantees that you can see something absolutely breath-taking when running the benchmark.

Seeing is believing
Numbers only tell you so much. A benchmark should be much more than theoretical figures estimating theoretical throughputs. 3DMark(tm) 99 is a testing suite that will push your system's 3D performance to the limits, not just by drawing millions of triangles simultaneously on screen, but by rushing you through the most amazing 3D scenes ever done real-time on PC.

Welcome to 3DMark

3DMark tests your system's performance in 3D Game Applications. 3DMark is an excellent tool for home users to see how their system performs and offers professionals the ability to compare how different 3D Accelerators behave on a wide range of computers.

After performing the 3DMark tests, you are able to view your results in the Result Browser, and see how your system performs under different conditions, such as changing the screen resolution, color depth and different buffering modes. You will also be able to view the Image Quality of your 3D Rendering.

And finally, you can submit your results via the Internet to the 3DMark Web page where you can make comparisons with other users. You will also be able to download example databases for a larger comparison set.
