Sleep in the street before house buying

Ken Campbell suggests that people before buying a house in rougher parts of cities should park a van in the street on a Saturday and sleep in the van overnight. How a neighbourhood behaves at its worst on a Saturday night could put you off buying and so save you much heartache later.
