Tips from California

Nicholas Saunders noticed several good small transport social inventions in California, which he felt could be adopted in the UK. For instance, his host was caught going over a 'stop' sign and was given a choice of a big fine or a small one (and no offence appearing on his record) if he attended eight hours of 'traffic school' (one Yellow Pages ad for recognised traffic schools claimed 'Why groan? - laugh your way through traffic school.' They employed only 'top rate' comedians).

Saunders also liked the way that drivers on the main streets are alerted to the names of the next street crossing theirs by signs attached to lamposts.
