Textured paving stones for the blind
Throughout Japanese cities, specially textured paving stones embedded in pavements guide blind pedestrians along a safe route. A change in texture - to lateral bars, lengthwise bars, knobs etc - indicates a change in direction, stairs or obstructions ahead. They also mark the edge of platforms, helping sighted people too.
