New page - I have added this page for the Acorn User CD Rom 4 version of my site as a Help and Information page. Along with this site folder there should be a backup text file 'readme.txt' giving info about my website and how to view it.

I have included the text again here - though if you've got as far as viewing this page you will already know most of these points - it's here mostly as a reference help file in HTML format:-

This is a short Info file to go with the folder 'dac' - which as you are reading this - is one of the folders on 'Acorn Users' 200th. Issue CD Rom.

I sent in this folder as a 'zipped' folder but it may well be included on on the CD already 'unzipped' in which case you can make use of it straight away by double-clicking on the folder to open it and drop the file 'index/htm' into your browser software. Double-clicking on 'index/htm' should also work.

If you do not have any browser software there should be a freeware one provided somewhere on this CD.

The enclosed folder 'dac' is a copy of my website as it stands as of 9th. August '98.

If the folder appears on the CD in it's 'zipped' form (perhaps to save space) then you will need to unpack the folder to your harddisc. Check any newer 'readme.txt' info files included by Steve Scott who has put the CD together. It may be he has used an image filing system like !raFS on the CD to help cope with longer filenames and with web pages that include Java files. If it is a zipfile then it should unpack to 5.8Mbs and comprises of 393 files in a number of sub-folders.

I have tested the site fully and all the links should work locally except of course the web counter and any other links that try to take you to other people's sites.

There are pages that include Tables, an Image Map, active Gifs, and on my Graphics Test Page - a PiNG file and a WEB file (Xara file format - not of the Acorn browsers will read this one - yet) There is also one JavaScript 'scrolling message' on my 'zero.htm' college graphics page. Please note that not all these features may be supported by the freeware browser included on the CD. I have tried to ensure that the pages are 'readable' by browsers that, for instance, don't support Tables.

The file extentions are /gif (.gif) /jpg (.jpg) /htm (.htm) and /zip (.zip) as we were asked to only use 'three' letter extentions. ie '.jpg' and '.htm' rather than '.jpeg' and '.html'

Many of the photographs of America that form part of my site are the same or similar to the photographs including on Acorn User Collectors CD Roms 2 (22 jpegs) and 3 (40 jpegs) My site now has 84 jpeg photos of America ie. 22 new pictures added. The images on my website have had to be kept to a lower resolution to save download time and webspace so if you have the earlier CD's and want to printout any of the images I suggest you check them for the best quality. Also on CD2 some of the images were offered as Sprites as well as Jpegs.

The American photographs were taken by me on two holidays to the States. Readers can have free personal use of the photographs as can schools or charities for projects or leaflets.

I also produced the graphics, fictional writing and DTP images that are on my site. I have used very low quality cover artwork scans (book covers, CD covers and fan images) - solely for identification - and as such should fall well in the 'acceptable fair usage' of copyright material.

If you have Internet access then why not also checkout my site to see any updates since August '98:
