About Eyetech

Eyetech was founded in 1983 as a subsidiary of an international UK quoted plc. Since late 1985 - following a management buyout - Eyetech has traded as a private limited company. The company has mainly been involved in producing bespoke commercial software/systems - mainly under Unix/AIX - particularly in the transport and distribution sector.

Eyetechs specialisation has been in track & trace systems using barcodes - in fact most UK parcels carriers that use barcodes use a system designed and/or implemented by Eyetech. The company also manufactures barcode decoders and industrial (networked) shopfloor data capture and access control systems.

We became interested in the Amiga, and became a registered Amiga developer, towards the end of 1993 : our interest is on two main fronts:

As an integrated multimedia development/mass delivery platform (A4000/CD32) for our existing customer base. The Amiga O/S and its Unix roots, and the cross-platform application compatibility between A4000 & CD32 were key in this decision.

As a low cost multitasking platform for shopfloor data collection/control applications in smaller industrial companies, allowing simultaneous local enquiries and the passing back of data to (typically) an accounts machine as a background process. This would usually be A4000 based.

In developing Amiga expertise over the course of the last few years or so we have needed to provide facilities which are not commonly available ex-stock, competitively priced or of industrial quality from normal Amiga suppliers. As we have designed and/or sourced these products we have made them available to the rest of the Amiga community in the UK and Europe.
