Subject:[warpup] Quake Request

Hi

As you know, the Quake sources have been released and ports are
supposed to appear quite soon. Now I have a small request.

As we know there exist PPC executables which have been made
illegaly. No matter what people say right now, nothing will ever
change that the responsible performs have acted against the
copyright restrictions. My personal opinion is, that we should
not encourage these people to continue doing and spreading
illegal software.

Therefore I kindly want to ask you all not to use/download any
upcoming Quake port, which was done by the same people which
did illegal executables in the past, even if they claim to have
used the released sources. Please wait for ports done by other
people, so please ignore uploads to Aminet if it must be expected
that the ports are potentially based on these older ports. It
would be so ashaming if the big mass of AMIGA people would
continue to use software of these people, as it is a clear
invitation for them to repeat this in future with other software
products.

I'm really sure, that we will see several ports of Quake done
by different people, so all I ask to you is to have a bit patience
(especially as the first ports to Aminet are quite likely to be
ports based on the existing PPC versions) and not to support
further making/spreading of software which violates the copyright.

For me personaly it would be very sad (and it would upset me, too)
if a Quake port based on work illegaly done in past would appear
with hardware acceleration through W3D, downloaded by a big mass
of people. I'm sure that other people will achieve similar results
sooner or later.

Everyone is free to do whatever he wants, of course, but just keep
in mind, that we really shouldn't support the continuation of
pirating software, so please give a sign to those people which didn't
understand that up to now by not using their software regardless
of the legal status. You will anyway get your legal Quake port sooner
or later.

bye
