I can't explain it but I've seen it.
I just bought a used Archive 525 MB tapedrive ($20 CDN) for my system to replace the Archive 150 MB drive I've been using. It's installed and tested. It works great. But along the way I had a scare because I used HDToolBox to see if the drive got recognized on boot. It shows the ID in use but does not report what the device is. Quarterback however identifies the drive correctly.
