I too have found the chip ram disappears at an alarming rate, just
opening windows and in particular listing their contents "By
Name".

I've not had the problem previously with OS3.1 except with
*really* large directory listings... and very rarely at that.
Now, I'm forever closing down windows back to the root of the
partitions since all contents are held in memory down to the
directory level being viewed.

I've used a 256 colour WB (800x600x8) for about 2 years, now
reduced to 64 colours to help with this problem.

Another strange thing, it requires more memory to list "by name"
than "by icon"? At first glance this appears to be the opposite
to what I'd expect. Any comments?

listings are much slower now also.

OS3.5, BB_1, A2000 060, PicIV, Picasso96, *2MB* chip, 64MB fast,
and so on.

It's true I haven't done much work on the problem yet...

The apparent inability to save def-drawers so that they "view by
name" and *not* "by icon" any longer is another small inconvenience.

Outside of those things I believe the gentlemen responsible have
done some wonderful work and I congratulate and thank them
wholeheartedly.

Regards

Michael
