How the product handles dates:
Expedia accepts user provided date information in a variety of formats. The following date information is collected:
Travel dates input by the user
Travel dates selected from a calendar control
Date of birth for passport information entered by the user
Date of birth for child or infant traveler entered by the user
Credit card expiration date entered by the user
Travel date entry fields will accept 2-digit years, 4-digit years, or no year. If no year is provided, the year is assumed to be current year if the date (described by day and month) is equal to or greater than the current date. If the date entered (described by day and month) is less than current date, the next year is assumed. The product will not search for travel dates in the past.
Calendar control specifies years expressed as a 4-digit number on a template where the user selects the date.
Date of birth fields for passport information, for child traveler information, and for infant traveler information requires a year. The entry field will accept a 2-digit or 4-digit year.
Data is stored in a database using 4-digit-year format. Date conversion from 2-digit format to 4-digit is handled by SQL.
Data provided by CRS systems does not specify the year. The year is calculated at the time of reservation or purchase by Expedia.com. The year is assumed to be the current year if the date (described by day and month) is equal to or greater than current date. If date entered (described by day and month) is less than the current date, the next year is assumed.
Two-digit shortcut handling:
If a 2-digit year is used in the date of birth fields in passport information, a sliding window is used. The sliding window assumes that the year is 3 years in advance or 97 years in the past.
Travel date and Credit card expiration date is assumed to be current or future year when a 2-digit year is entered by user.
