Seven-year war ravages Europe and changes balance of power overseas
Continental
and overseas territorial disputes leading to an exhausting seven-year
war pitted nearly every nation in Europe against another in the
mid-1700's. The war involved North America as well as Europe, and
its effects reached as far as India. At the war's end in 1763, a
crippled France was forced to give up almost all its lands in North
America to a triumphant Britain; France also suffered the loss of
its possessions in India.
