We, the antislavery committee of the Pennsylvania Religious Society of Friends, condemn this poster and beseech our neighbors to join us in petitioning for an end to the evil practice of slavery. Though there may be those who say that God and the Bible ordain that man may enslave his fellow man, we do not hold with these claims. For is not taking a man's freedom the same as taking his property or his life?

     
To be sure, the practice of keeping and working slaves can make a man rich. But is it not a wealth that only comes because of the violence and force which are used to make our black brethren work against their will? And does not doling out such injustice to our fellow man show a disrespect for our Creator and His blessings that is bound to reap grievous dividends in eternity? So, friends, we plead with you to free your slaves so that we may end the enslavement of our fellow beings and thus make our Creator's world more just.
