RISC OS compatibility

NDT fonts have been extensively tested on a wide variety of systems, including RO 3.1. However you must use the Acorn FontManager Version 3.07 or later. NDT fonts will also run under RISC OS 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 and 4

Loading NDT fonts into !FontED

Please note that NDT format fonts cannot be loaded into !FontED (Acorns own font editor). If you try you risk crashing your machine.

Loading NDT fonts in FontFiend/Dr Fonty

NDT fonts will load into FontFiend and Dr Fonty. However the NDT hinting system will be removed. The font can then be Saved and loaded by FontED.

CC TurboDrivers

If you are using a TurboDriver then to print NDT fonts correctly you will need to turn off Halftone Text in the Halftone Options window. Note that this is not a problem with our fonts but with the TurboDriver font handling.

Problem Solving

There are some problems that you may experience.

Fonts appear with upper case names in some apps

This can happen when fonts are run from the CD. The ISO 9660 format used by this CD does not allow lower case characters and so font names appear in upper case. There is a mapping table on the CD to correct this problem but some older applications do not recognize this. The solution is to either install the fonts to your hard disk, or upgrade the application causing the problem.

Fonts do not print properly but are OK on screen.

This is caused by using a CC Turbodriver or LaserDirect printer with the "HalfTone Text" button turned on. Turn this button off and the fonts will print. This is not a problem with our fonts but with the CC printer drivers.

Abort on Data transfer errors

Some applications cannot handle over 2000 fonts so if you turn on all the font groups they may become unstable. Only turn on the groups you actually need.

What is NDT?

NDT (No Dropout Technology) is a new font hinting system developed by iSV Products that provides high quality font rendering at all point sizes.

NDT totally eliminates dropout (when parts of letters vanish at small point sizes). NDT fonts contain a sophisticated scaffolding system that links scaffolds within a letter and then links all the scaffolds inside a font.

NDT fonts are fully compatible with normal Acorn Outline Fonts. The two types can be freely mixed on one machine. Over the past five years NDT has been under constant development. The fonts on Typo500 are all hinted using the latest version NDT Expert. This system applies more hinting to letter parts that may be more prone to dropouts. In tests NDT Expert has proved far more effective than traditional 'hand crafted' hinting. This is especially true of complex script fonts which cannot be correctly hinted using old methods.
