Press Release

Los Angeles, CA (5/12/99) - PokΘmon trainers, prepare to put your PokΘmon to the ultimate test! All 150 PokΘmon are ready to flex their muscles as Nintendo 64 owners finally get the chance to battle their PokΘmon in full 3-D splendor in PokΘmon Stadium.

This genre-breaking game will allow players to transfer their PokΘmon from the best-selling Blue and Red PokΘmon Game Boy games directly to the N64. PokΘmon Stadium will be available in October.

PokΘmon Stadium allows up to four players to "tough it out" with PokΘmon taken directly from Game Boy games in a N64 PokΘmon tournament. This new capability is possible through the use of NintendoÆs innovative new N64 Transfer PakÖ. Similar to the Rumble Pak« and the N64 Controller PakÖ, the N64 Transfer Pak plugs into the slot of the N64 controller and allows for data to be transferred from Game Boy games directly to the N64.

"PokΘmon Stadium is simply one of the most unique games to ever come to the N64," says Peter Main, NintendoÆs executive vice president, sales and marketing. "The ability to transfer the PokΘmon you have trained on Game Boy to full 3-D battle arenas is something every PokΘmon fan has dreamed of doing."

All of the PokΘmon in PokΘmon Stadium will feature special attacks and fully animated movements. Watch in amazement as Pikachu zaps the opposition with a bolt of electricity or as Jigglypuff casts its famous sleeping spell.

A number of game modes give PokΘmon Stadium endless replay value. Start by learning the basics of PokΘmon battles in the gameÆs training mode. This is a great way for newcomers to the PokΘmon world to become familiar with training and battling different PokΘmon. In an "Event Battle," players can set time limits and determine how much time is allotted between moves. The "Research" mode lets gamers organize their PokΘmon and swap data with the Game Boy games. The highlight of PokΘmon Stadium is the gameÆs "Free Battle," where up to four players can compete in a two-on-two tag team match. Each player gets to choose three PokΘmon apiece and watch as 12 PokΘmon battle it out. PokΘmon Stadium also features a number of mini-games that allow up to four players to participate.

The PokΘmon phenomenon began with the release of the original Blue and Red Game Boy games in September 1998 which have now sold more than 2.6 million units in the U.S. alone, topping industry sales charts. PokΘmon has entertained millions of fans all over the world with a top rated kids television show, a best-selling toy line, a hugely popular card game and a multitude of licensed products.

Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, is the acknowledged worldwide leader in the creation of interactive entertainment. To date, Nintendo has sold more than one billion video games worldwide, has created such industry icons as Mario and Donkey Kong and launched franchises like The Legend of Zelda and PokΘmon. Nintendo manufactures and markets hardware and software for its popular home video game systems, including the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy û the worldÆs best-selling video game system. As a wholly owned subsidiary, Nintendo of America Inc., based in Redmond, Wash., serves as headquarters for Nintendo's operations in North America.
