The first of this pair of "bone-keepers," Cubone packs a
punch, or rather, a bone. In the television show, Cubone is
portrayed as a wimpy "crybaby" pokemon who just doesn't know how
to stand up for itself very well. However, in the game, he's far
from it.
Cubone's high hit points and defense makes up for his poor
attack and slow speed. His powerful defense might originate from
his thick skull, hiding his head from the world. Along with this
protective helmet, he has his bone, which he carries with him
even after evolution. This bone is the source of such attacks as
the infamous "Bone Club" and the more powerful "Bonemerang"
(learned after evolution).
When captured (he can only be caught at levels 20 and 22 at
the Pokemon Tower), Cubone only knows two moves: Bone Club and
Growl. It learns Leer at Level 25, three levels before it
evolves into Marowak.

As Cubone glows, he starts to grow larger and you can see his skull grow around his head more. A small spike protrudes from his tail and his bone grows larger! Finally, the glowing ceases. Cubone has evolved to Marowak!
Marowak's protective skull has formed completely around his head, becoming part of this wonderful lil' pokemon. Both his Hit Points and his Defense are at their max, ready to take on any pokemon!
In Battle
After evolution, Marowak does not gain a second type, rendering him a pure Ground-type pokemon! If you ever come across one of those pesky Pikachus, or any other electric pokemon at that, put in Marowak! Ground pokemon are completely immune to any electric attack, so let those Pikachus try their hardest to fry ya, but no worries, they can't get to ya! Also, ground pokemon have a great advantage against poison, and with one hit with Earthquake, a Gengar will be crying for its mommy! And then, Fire-type pokemon can always be a hastle. Put in Marowak, and watch them fall! Finally, Rock pokemon can also be taken down easily by Marowak.
Unfortunately, Marowak does have his weaknesses. Those pesky
flying pokemon seem to be able to avoid any of Marowak's
ground-type attacks, so if you want to ground Pidgeot, Marowak
can't help you there. He's also weak against both Grass and Bug pokemon.
Marowak - One of the Best
Ground PokΘmon!
Ok, so I admit it. Marowak is not the best Ground pokemon,
but he's ONE of the best! The only other pokemon (at their final
evolution) that are only Ground-type are Sandslash and Dugtrio.
These two will be discussed a little later.
First, let's go through the other Ground pokemon. Both
Nidoking and Nidoqueen are part poison, giving them a
disadvantage against ground pokemon, as discussed before. Then,
there are the Rock/Ground pokemon. As I said before, Rock pokemon
have a great disadvantage against Ground, so Marowak would have a
slight edge against all of them (Onix, Rhyhorn, and Golem).
So, it all comes down to these last three contenders:
Sandslash, Dugtrio, and of course, Marowak. Each one of them is
unique in their own way, although Marowak seems to stand out more
than the others do. Dugtrio is the only one that can learn Dig
without a TM, but both Sandslash and Marowak can with the TM.
Sandslash is the only one of the three that can learn Swift
without the TM. But Marowak is the only pokemon that can
know/learn Bone Club and Bonemerang. Both are powerful Ground
attacks that show Marowak's true talent.
So, in the end, it all comes down to your own opinion. Mine,
of course, will always be with Marowak, but yours may be
different. . They all have their own attributes, and are all
unique in their own way. If you DO use any of the three, don't
delay teaching them the TM Earthquake! It will come in handy
later on. Of course, who could turn down the opportunity of using
Bonemerang on a troublesome Pikachu? Not I!
