Hi everybody,
I have this personal question. In a few months my friend
and I are going to Australia and Fiji. We really want to go
diving but I am a little bit worried about sharks and
having your period. I know this sounds crazy but maybe
someone can give me an honest answer?
Thanks anyway!

Hi, regarding diving in shark infested area in an open
wound or ladies having period are all not advisible! Blood
traces can cause a frenzy among certain species of sharks
depending on where you dive! My advise is be safe than
sorry!

I've lived in Australia for many of my 35 years, and have
swum many a time with my period and have never been eaten,
chewed or spoken to by a shark. The odds are against it -
the ones on the reef aren't generally man or woman eaters,
and further south you'd have to pretty unlucky. Don't be
paranoid, and don't listen to those who are.
If you wear tampons, you will not have a problem at all,
don't believe what the doc says (no offense doc). Not only
will you have your tampon in place, but your swim suit and
then the one or two layers or neoprene of your suit provide
barriers.

I've dived with sharks with my period, and well, they
couldn't care at all - just don't spend too much time
thrashing around at the surface, they may think you're a
seal and THEN there this a chance they will attack.
Yep, Kat's right. My diving teacher told me that there is
no reason why you shouldn't dive during your periods.Agains
the general belief it's OK. It is NOT a problem so go for it
Thanks everyone for your advice. Now I can dive without
worrying. Happy diving!!! Bye, Jo
