I am about to go on a year long trip through Asia and will
be carrying one (hopefully only medium sized) backpack
throughout. I have heard there are some companies that make
backpacks that fit women's bodies better. can anyone offer
any suggestions or brands?
thank you!

i have an eagle creek pack, womens fit. they make several
kinds of packs, all different sizes. look for a womens fit
and try them on in the store....you feel silly at first but
it really helps. i tryed on a regular pack then a womens
fit pack and the difference was amazing, extra padding on
the lower back and the weight was carried lower on the
hips, where we women carry best. my advice is to try try
try, then go with the one that feels best, remember it will
    be your buddy for awhile!!

I also have an Eagle Creek pack. I looked at lots of packs and this one was great. It has a lifetime guarantee and a great zip off daypack. I was a bit skeptical about tehe "women's fit", but I am only 5'5, so I fit nicely into the pack! If you are taller, you may find that a regular pack is great. The only disappointment is the cost...now about $300 CDN or more for the 61 litre pack plus daypack (World Journey Women's Fit). It's a great pack though!

I just returned from a round the world trip and I used a
medium sized backpac specifically desigined for a womens
frame. The brand name is Macpac and the style is orential
express. I bought it in Australia and it cost around $350
(Aussie dollars). The Macpac is made in New Zealand but I
met many travellers from arround the globe from many
countries that carried this pack. It is a very durable
pack and I have not one complaint after lugging it around
for so long. Your best bet is to visit a camping or hiking
store and see what recommendations they can make.
    Have a great trip.

I used a Lowe Scirocco, and loved it! i am short, about 5-2,
and it fit like a dream. I got it at REI, about $150.

i have a dana designs pack i got maybe 4 or 5 years ago and
i absolutely love it. i'm pretty small, and it fits me
perfectly. it was really expensive though, around $300
american. (it was a b-day gift :). but it's been well
worth it, as i've taken it on week-long back-country trips
in north america, as well as travelled with it. they have
lots of new packs now, so you should check them out and
    almost any outdoor store.

I have a gregory pack bought in the US for $350, it was
worth the extra cost for all of the adjustments that can be
made to fit me, and also adjustments while walking to make
the pack seem that much more comfortable with such a heavy
load. I reccomend getting one with a front panel on it as
the others are difficult to access you stuff quickly.
You will be gald you spent the extra cash in the long run!

  7. Mountain Designs Added by: Carol
[Timestamp: Fri 9 April, 13:12 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I have a Mountain Designs (Australian brand) pack designed
specifically for women. It's a bit smaller capacity than
the average pack, it's also narrower which is excellent as I
have a small bone structure. It's a bit more expensive than
the avergae pack but I think it was worth it

Oops, the company name is Jandd, not Jannd.

  9. dana packs Added by: Eileen
[Timestamp: Sat 17 April, 1:42 Tasmanian Standard Time]

thanks for the great posts! Does anyone know where I can get
Dana packs? I talked to a friend who said they had recently
been bought out by north face and are no longer such good
quality...they said it was recent though and that some
stores may still sell the old ones...any info?

  10. Pack for girls' backs Added by: Audrey

As usual I will give my plug for osprey packs. Osprey is a
small company in colorado who makes all their packs in
their colorado factory ( no slave labor over seas) and also
does no advertizing. This means they can be hard to find,
but it also means you get tons of high quality features at
a good price. They make several womens packs in many
different sizes and to fit many different activities. Also
all the packs come in different torso lengths and harness
sizes. They also have a specialized womans harness. I
have a very small frame. I hade a hard time finding even
womens packs that would fit me. Osprey packs work great
and the quality is fantastic. They also have some very
    inovative features.

I bought an Amelia by Osprey and love it. It fits well to my small frame and is super comfortable. A bit expensive in CDN $ but well worth it! It will be cheaper in the US. I've backpacked in the Rockies and the UK and found it great.

  12. Osprey for sure! Added by: Lisa
[Timestamp: Thu 22 April, 0:09 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Osprey is the best pack for small framed people (esp.
women) in my opinion. Definitely worth every penny. I'm
5'4 and mine fits like a glove.
The pack is quality, and it shows. I have the Hejira
travel pack (small). It comes with a day pack as well.

  13. I know a good backpack Added by: Debbie

Just to let you know, I got a great rucksack by BERGHAUS (bought in London for 120 pounds) which is especially designed for women, with narrower straps and backing, with adjustable everything. I've used it many times and would recommend it to you. Very hardy and practical.
Also, make sure you buy one proportional to your body weight. don't get one too heavy for you, as they're impossible to get up onto your back and make travelling hard work. enhoy your travels.

As suggested in the above post, you should really check out
the Eagle Creek packs. There are two styles that are created
in a women's fit. There is store in San Diego, called Le
Travel Store, that has a web site with more info.
