Proper type of undies

I like to visit desert climates and have had great enjoyment
in scaling some rather impressive heights in my 25 years. My
problem is that the heat tends to give me a terribly itchy
rash on my inner thigh. I though it was the underwear I had
on so I switched to a cotton thong, the rash subsided
somewhat but then I had the problem of the undies riding up
my crotch area. What's a girl to do? Help!

  1. Underwear Added by: Annie

Try silk underwear (i mean the knitted version, not the
satin stuff), and buy it one or even two sizes larger than
you really need. (If silk is too expensive, try knitted
    cotton and also larger)

My wife says shop locally. The women who live in hot climates know what to wear, and the marketplaces willhave the merchandise in stock.

those little boxers they make for women. Those should
    protect your thighs.

I find baby powder indispensable for preventing heat rash!
Also, after the fact, a cortisone cream will ease the pain
    quickly.

  5. use diaper rash cream Added by: anna

I agree, having tried the boxer shorts, and baby powder,
they do help, and so does the diaper rash cream (think
    its zinc oxide based)

  6. may not be sexy but they do the job Added by: Catherine

I tend to get chafing from underpant elastic in hot, sticky
climates, particularly on long bus trips. What I found was
good was switching to those big cotton undies with bands
aroudn the legs rather than bare elastic - Bonds
cottontails in Australia. Re the chafing b/w the thighs, I
have also found nappy rash/barrier cream to be effective.
The one I use is called Bepanthen and contains panthenol
and several other ingredients. Lanolin would probably also
    be good.

    Bepanthen helps a lot.

  8. unobtrusive undies Added by: E.J. (chikingurl@hotmail.com)

They're definitely not sexy, but I've found that men's
briefs (aka whitie tighties) are the most comfortable.
They're usually cotton, inexpensive, and cut (a little
larger and wider than women's) so that they don't ride up
    my bum.

  9. try these Added by: Kathryn

Travelsmith makes underwear for travelers. They are supposed
to keep moisture away from your skin. www.travelsmith.com to
    order or get a catalogue.

try the catalog Katrina lists. I have had great results
with sports or backpacking undies - Northface, Patagonia,
REI etc. Synthetic mixes that wick moisture away from your
skin. Pricey and not all that attractive, but I'm a
    convert.

Try going without, it's a great feeling to catch a breeze
    uder a loose skirt

Sounds to me (and I'm not a doctor but someone who suffers
from similar problems in summer in my home city) that you
get heat rash that turns into a fungal infection (like jock
itch). So I'd suggest you use an antifungal cream like
    canestan

  13. ditch the undies Added by: megan
[Timestamp: Tue 9 March, 17:56 Tasmanian Standard Time]

After years of living in a hot climate I've learned to ditch
the undies and use desitin diaper rash cream instead. Just
put some on in the morning and you don't have to worry about
rashs or chapping ever! The only downside is it smells
strange. If you're more modest team it up with undies. I
used to bicycle eight miles a day to work in over one
hundred degree tempature and you can imagine the state of my
inner thighs. a gyn nurse told me this trick. I never had a
    problem after that.

  14. cut off tights Added by: anne
[Timestamp: Thu 11 March, 6:47 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I also get rashes on my inner thighs, but usually from my thighs rubbing together. I like to wear skirts alot when I travel, so I cut off a pair of thin tights at the knees and wear those under skirts.
