Has anyone recently been to Zamboanga City. I would like to know about ferry travel or flights from Manila etc. The cost and if Zamboanga city is safe for foreigners.
Any information would help
Regards Allan.

  1. Ferry to Zamboanga Added by: Ken (kenneth.reynolds@ec.gc.ca)

Philippine Airlines, and Air Philippines fly to Zamboanga.
The WG&A Ferries also operate between the islands, includine
routes from Cebu and Iloilo to Zamboanga.
My wife and I visited the country over Christmas/New year
past, and had intended to travel by ferry from Iloilo to
Brunei, via Zamboanga. Unfortunately we were unable to make
contact with the individual we wished to visit in Brunei,
and the Canadian Embassy Staff in Manila advised against the
trip. So the visit was postponed "unitl next time".
There are risks involved depending upon your particular
circumstances. If you are travelling alone, well dressed
and with lots of expensive bags, you may arouse unwelcome
interest, especially in rural areas. If you are travelling
with a Pilipino spouse, they will mostly be able to keep you
out of trouble. If you are white and North American or
European, it is impossible to be inconspicuous, you will be
on average, taller than almost everyone else, and therefore
    visible to everyone.
I enjoyed my visit to the Philippines, and will be happy to
return, perhaps to fulfill my earlier plans, and travel on
    to Zamboanga and Brunei.
    Good Luck.
    Ken.
