If this topic comes up twice, Sorry. I am not sure if the
first one worked. I am travelling to the PHilippines in
July/August, 1999 with a friend. We want/need to get to
Bacolod and to Ozamis. Since PAL went down, it is
apparently quite hard getting to these places. Especially to
Ozamis. Does anyone know anything about getting to these
two places?? We might have to take a ferry, but how safe are
these? we are two females and this may not be a good option
for us. Please help. Thanks.

    hello Alison,
Do not worry Philippine Air Lines is flying again. PAL has daily flights to Bacolod and Ozamis. You can also try the other new airlines like Cebu Pacific Air, Air Philippines and Asian Spirit. All these new airlines fly to Bacolod and probably Ozamis. Enjoy your trip. Cheers

I do not think that PAL flies to Ozamis however it does fly
to Dipolog (4 or 5 days per week) then road transport from
there. Or fly to Cagayan de Oro and then by road.

I'm Filipino, and I've never even heard of the city
named "Ozamis." What is out there? Why do you want to go
there? Am I missing out on something? Is this for research?
    Just curious.

last month by Negros Navigation Shipping Co from Palawan. These are BIG boats - ships - and seemed very safe to me. I think the dangerous ferries are the little local ones around Manila that overcrowd when the weather is bad.
Beware: if you stay in Bacolod, DO NOT stay at Halali Hotel, it is absolutely filfty and the other hotel mentioned in LP down the road does not exist. In fact that area of Bacolod was not very nice. We arrived at dusk after a 19 hr ferry ride and were getting up at 5am for a bus to Cebu & had let our taxi go, otherwise we would never have stayed in that area. Boys came up to us asking for pesos and had no qualms about grabbing my wrist when asking, even though my husband is 6'1" and 225lbs!!!

Thanks for replying to my enquiry. I think the best thing
for me to do is to ask around at the airport or at a travel
office once I land in Manila and arrange the flights from
there. (i'm glad to know that there ARE flights now!).
Thanks for the accomodation info in Bacolod. In both places
(and in the other areas I am travelling to), we won't be
staying in hotels. There are some philipino friends we are
visiting, and we are staying with them. There is a place
called "ozamis" or "ozamis city". Lonely planet guide
states that this place is "not for a traveller" since it is
apparently quite boring and only a port town. :) Such is
life. Thanks again for replying. Alison.
