Can any of you well traveled people out there share some
info on Indo? Firstly what sort of money is it going to
cost me to fly return to Bali from the end of June maybe
mid July returning to the UK mid to the end of september.
Also is there any good internet sights for booking this
sort of flight. My next question is one that everone asked
how much is it going to cost me to live while im there? I
did spend 3 months in SE Asia about 4 years ago so I know
that its up to the person but is indo still really cheap?
Once im there I would like to get outa Bali asap as I spent
2 weeks there already where would people reconmend that i
go, bear in mind that im into surfing, treking, climbing,
diving, etc. Dose anyone know if there is any good climbing
anywhere in Indo?
Im would like to bring back some of those cheap indo craft
stuff is thee a freight company that anyone has used or has
been told about that wont lose all my stuff? And last of
all tell me about your trip the places to go and just as
importantly the ones to steer well clear of. Please bear in
mind when answering these questions that I have spent 2
years traveling so im not that green but would just like
some upto date info by those in the know.
cheers...................JOE

    Hello Joe,
My memories are stil fresh since I have just returned. Indonesia is stil cheap although the prices are higher than last year and dollar is now 8000 rupiah. It has been lower at 7800 rupiah and the best rates you get in Kuta Bali for certain. We took cash. For TC may be little less. The rate also depends on the current political situation or expectation of any disturbances. Daily budget for us two was 160000 rupiah and it was easy to get by with this money. You can eat well for 20000 rupiah and sleep for 25000 - 40000 a double with breakfast. About the sights I would recommend Kelimutu in Flores ( a vulcano with three coloured lakes). They take you to the top on a back of a truck. It is about 13 km and ask for 10000 rupiah one way. It is a rip off but would you rather walk? We walked down from there about 2 hours through the villages and to the hot springs and a waterfall, but would not get up in the middle of the night to walk up. Anyways they wake you at 4 a.m. to get to the top before sunrise. From Bali you can fly with Merpati to Maumere Flores for 100 dolars on way. It saves you a lot of time, but not the money. Flores is hard to travel because the roads are winding up and down and people get sick on the busses regularly. In Labuanbajo, the port of Flores you can arrange boat to little islands with good corals and fish. There is some really good snorkeling. Also popular way to get from Flores to Lombok is by 4 day/3 night boat tour which stops on Komodo and Rinca and you snorkel every day. Price is about 300000 rupiah with everything included. You can also go the other way.
On Lombok is a really good trekking to Rinjani to 3750 meters high top. We took a 3 day tour with guide and porters for 300000 rupiah but could get for 250000 direct with the guide. From the hotel is more. Don`t miss it!
Important: the elections are on 7 June and I would avoid the places like Aceh on Sumatra or Jakarta. On Bali or Lombok should be no troubles but you just never know. Follow the daily news and you will see. We were told that the tour groups comming to Indonesia in beginning of June will be accompanied by soliders to the sights. They are afraid of cancellations.
I hope this is good enough for start.
    Jasna
