Hi all,
I dont have accomodations booked in Bali yet. Are there
enough touts at the airport and do they steer you to
decent/clean/cheap places? Or should I just get in a taxi
and ask the driver to drop me off somewhere...and where
should that be? I'd like to be dropped in the south near
the beaches...

not to purchase hotel accomodation.....but to find out about the type of hotels that you could stay at, use them up so to speak.
A couple of suggestions, depending on funds available..
Higher end ...bali Dynasty, Santika, Kartika Plaza, LG and Sol Elite all iun Tuban ( south Kuta)
Middle....Bounty hotel, Sahid bali, Jaya Karta, Bali Inten
all near or on the beach in Kuta
    Mandira in Legian..
Low end...Rama Graha Flore gardens etc...the agaents will know them............
Find the better ones a get a taxi from the airport to run you around until you find the best price. You should save heaps.

If you start walking out of the airport with your baggage
you will be approached by guys with motorcycles who will
take you to wherever you want to go for about 1/2 to 3/4 the
price of a taxi. Know the prices and tell them where you
want to go. I do this everytime I go to Bali. It's only
about 5 to 10 minutes to Kuta.
