Can you dive aorund the Surin/Similan Islands during late
May, early June? Is the diving there the best Thailand has
to offer?
What are the Perhentian islands like for diving same sort
of time May/June and whats the best/quickest way of getting
there from southern Thailand?

The May/June period is the best time of the year for diving
along the west coast of Thailand/Peninsular Malaysia. Taxis
ply frequently between major towns and they are
cheap, convenient and quick. You catch the boat from Besut
in Terengganu to cross over to Pulau Perhentian. Pulau
Redang is the more popular destination.

  2. Perhentians vs Redang Added by: paul (pauljeffress@compuserve.com)

The Perhentians and Redang are close to each other yet
worlds apart. Redang is upmarket, expensive and exclusive.
By contrast the Perhentians are downmarket, prices are
variable depending on the standard you want and the people
more backpackerish - can I patent that adjective? Redang
has limited accommodation; the Perhentians a wide range.
Clean modern buses also ply down the east coast and airfare
back to Kuala Lumpur are cheap if you want to leave from
    there.
