travel from manado

We are going to end our trip in Manado, and will need to
get from there to Bangkok in 2 days or so. Any thoughts on
a budget way to accomodate this plan? So far, airlines
have told us about $450 each to fly all they way, but we
are willing to also take a bus or train from either
Singapore or K.L.
Thanks for any tips!

    Hi Eric,
I'm not too sure about the Silk Air rates, but the OW
flight to Singapore should not be much more than US$ 200.
It's on Tuesdays and Saturdays. From Singapore you could
then go up to Bangkok by train, I heard it's great to do it
    this way.
    Good luck!

  2. Long Haul Added by: Karlo

If you have only two days for the whole Manado-BGK transit,
you'll want to get right off the plane in Singers, and right
onto that train. It's a bloody long haul overland, and will
take most of two days. I've bussed from Bangkok to Koh Samui
(Surat Thani, a long day), then minivanned from Samui to
Penang (another long day), then bussed from Penang to
Singers (a long night). There's not that many visual
thrills. In the time you've got, it would just be a butt
wear-out. Why bother? If the train works, train it. If not,
    fly.

  3. Bangkok to Manado Added by: Rich (rich@loxinfo.co.th)

Peter's comment was quite accurate--he is friend of mine and
I just saw him in Manado, where he lives.
I live in Bangkok, and can suggest possibly flying to Manila
on PAL, and then on a PAL domestic flight to Davao, and then
on an Indonesian airline (Bouraq?) to Manado.
