Hi everybody,
I am very curious to hear from you about your experiences
with diving in Manado. Have read about the Nusantara Diving
Centre. Any experience you can share with me? Can you take
lessons there, is it a Padi certified diving centre and can
you also hire equipment there?
Thanks for any info!

I don't know much about diving, but I love your idea to dive in Manado. Your name sounds great, and I already get butterflies in my stomach when I read your message.
Would there be a possibility to meet.

We were not so happy with NDC, however, that was 3 years
ago. Barrakuda Diving Centre was o.k. and we could make the
deal to stay on Bunaken and get a pick up from there every
day. In the meantime some new dive centres opened. I would
recommend to check it out there.
NDC was very big, also they seem to cater more for the
    "package tourists".
Diving itself is excellent there!!! Enjoy + Happy travells!

    Hi Calvin,
Why not try to meet on 31st of December and start the new
    millennium together?

Deborah, if you like to dive with an operation which makes
all their guests really happy and which is a lot more than
just "o.k.", try the Froggies Divers on Bunaken Island.
They are small, very professional and the French-Italian
lady running it is not only a fascinating personality, but
speaks 6 languages. They are PADI certified, and their
equipment is top. It costs US$ 50 for two dives.
    Have fun! (you will!)

  6. Info about diving in Sulawesi Added by: Marco (mlederich@gmx.net)

All who need info about diving in Sulawesi for a future
trip, or who have already been diving there, please have a
    look at the following site:
    http://snow.icestorm.net/sulawscuba
It's a kind of rating system for diving centers. That's why
it would be great if everyone who has already been there
would take part and fill in the form on the page.
    Thanks!!

  7. Garbage Added by: Karlo
[Timestamp: Thu 20 May, 14:20 Tasmanian Standard Time]

It's amazing to me that nobody discussing diving around
Manado mentions the humungous driftlines of floating urban
garbage that get blown out of Manado Harbor and pile up feet
deep on the beaches of Bunaken. It can be really revolting.

  8. garbage Added by: Peter (blume@manado.wasantara.net.id)
[Timestamp: Thu 20 May, 16:17 Tasmanian Standard Time]

At certain times of the year (usually rainy season)
prevailing western winds are causing this garbage problem
on Bunaken that Karlo is talking about. Part of the garbage
is coming from Manado, another part from much further away.
Some organisations, dive centers and local homestays have
started to address this problem more seriously. Still, if
you're only looking for paradise beaches, Bunaken isn't the
place anyway, with or without garbage. But the diving IS
    fantastic!

  9. Bunaken Added by: observer
[Timestamp: Thu 20 May, 16:22 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Even though the beaches are not fantastic, it's much nicer
to stay on Bunaken than in one of the dive ghettos (NDC,
Barracuda) on the mainland, which only have mangroves...
