Hey
Me and my boyfriend are going to Mondoro island last in
June and most of July.
We want some tip about the Island and we have some
questions.
We are gping to stay in a place called Coco Beach near
Puerto Galera in the north.
Is there any places to go - attractions like waterfalls,
mountains or things like that?
Can we rent bicycles, a car, motorcycles or how do we best
get around avoiding too many tourists?
How is the weather in this time?
Can we use Visa- or mastercard in Puerto Galera?
In what conditions are the roads?
We also want to go around the island. We have planned to
Pandan Island, Roxas and San JosĪ˜.
Is there any attractions in the cities?
Anything else to tell?
I will be greatful if you can help me with some of my
questions. Thanks.

  1. Puerto Galera Added by: MiLo (mlo@pinoymail.com)

Coco Beach is a relatively quiet, private resort as it is
set into its own cove and is quite a distance from Sabang
and White Beach, where most of the tourists converge. If
you hate crowds and rowdy tourists, stay away from Sabang
at all costs. Puerto Galera is mostly a beach town, and,
as far as I know, there are no nearby mountains or
waterfalls readily accessible but you may want to travel
further inland to Mount Halcon. If you'd like to bring a
car (highly inadvisable if you're not headed to White Beach
or Puerto Galera town proper, and considering the condition
of the roads) or a 4 x 4, you can rent one in Manila and
ferry it over from the Batangas pier to Balatero, which is
a considerable distance from Coco Beach. I don't know if
they rent out bicycles or motorcycles anywhere in Puerto
Galera, since the main mode of transportation around
Mindoro (aside from the outriggers and ferries) is by
jeepney. I was there for the Easter week-end (1st week of
April), and it was raining pretty hard in the mornings and
late evenings. And although it's only May, we've been
experiencing several thunderstorms so far(but no typhoons
yet), an indication of La Nina; so expect June and July
(when the rainy season "officially" begins) to be even more
wet. You may find that most establishments don't accept
credit cards, so bring cash to be on the safe side.

We where in Puerto Galera (White beach) last year in june.
We found it very quiet at that time, and luckely far,far
away from Sabang wich is terrible. At white beach there is
one diving shop wich rents motorbikes. They are a bit more
expensive compared to other asian countries, but it's a
nice way to check the countryside. Take the road from
Puerto G. to Calapan. You will enjoy the beautifull jugle
surounding, quiet beaches, Tamaraw waterfalls, etc.

you can rent motorcycles out for about 700 pesos a day in
sabang, there is only one place in puerta galeria that
takes credit cards, it is a travel agent/service. Puerta
galleria is small, when you get off the ferry, go straight
up the road to the first intersection and make a right the
travel agent is on the left side.
i like sabang beach, there are many good places to eat, one
thing that is fun is you can rent out a large boat for
about 400 pesos for 3-4 hours and snorkel off of the
outriggers while the boat is moving, very fun. there is also
a floating bar that you can barbeque on. (buy fresh fish,
chicken etc in the outdoor market in the morning)
if you are interested, you can see a page i posted at:

    have fun - marc

  4. Coco beach! Added by: scubadude (westpac999@yahoo.com)

My friend and I stayed at Coco Beach resort and really
enjoyed the Nipa hut style rooms! Although it was a bit
muggy ant night, the nets around the bead kept the bugs out!
Totally charming though! The resturant food is very good
and reasonable. You must get a professional massage by the
traind (Masues?) There is a cool swimming pool and you can
get to sabang by banka boat for around 200-300peso. trip
takes about 15 minutes. If you want another cool island to
explore try Borocay! We had an awesome time staying in a
nice hotel called Waling Waling. there are around 200
hotels, and resturants to explore. a small Island with
    friendly locals.

You'll love the Coco Beach Resort. I find it the nicest
amongst all the other accomodations around Puerto Galera.
The mountains/forests around Mindoro are very lush. Just ask
around and you can easily find a guide for treks.
Massage is cheaper if you have the chance to go to White
    Beach/Tamaraw Beach.
Dont miss going island hopping. The snorkelling experience
is not to be missed at Coral Gardens. The beach there is of
superior quality in that area plus, there are some great
    cheap barbecue meals available.
Water is kind of cold at this time but maybe it will get
    warmer by June-July.
North Pandan Island is beautiful! If youre not going there
through the package offered by Coco Beach, email me for tips
on travel. The scenery going to the island is fantastic. Its
a long rough trip though but worth it. Not much to see in
the towns on the way there. On the island, great wide
expanse of white sand beach. There's a forest at the back
which you can explore. Very quiet place, good for rest and
    relaxation.
