Watch out, Vegetarians !

If you care about animals and do not want to watch them
being slaughtered - a word of advice on rafting trips in
Nepal: I have been a vegetarian for the past 25 years. I
knew that on my rafting trip most people would eat meat and
that the supply boat carried meat supplies for 2 days. It
is the kind of thing you learn to live with. I have
stopped preaching about animal rights since years. Making a
statement by my actions rather than talking and trying to
convince others. But when on the 5.th day the expedition
leader bought four live chickens to kill them in front of
our eyes for that night's "spicy chicken pizza", it came as
a shock to me. I saw how they tried to break the cockrels
wings to tie them down. It deeply upset me... In that
particular case I magaged to "save" the chickens and they
travelled downstream with us for 2 days before we released
them. I made 4 friends and 16 enemies. But never mind. So if
you are a vegetarian and care about animals and want to go
on an adventure trip, check beforehand if they plan to kill
animals on your trip to cater for westerners that can not
handle to be without meat for more than 2 days.
At least you can chose then or mentally prepare yourself.
Compassion is unconditional and includes ALL sntient beings.

It would be a measure of your commitment and credibility if
you could muster the same passion for the two-legged
animals that are being slaughtered ,even as you read this,
    in the former Yugoslavia .

What's a sntient being? I think you should have realised
that you were no longer in the wonderful, fluffy western
world and they don't have the luxury of worrying about how
their chickens feel. It sounds unusual though that they'd
go to the trouble of carting chickens about- what's wrong
    with dried noodles!

I'm so sorry you had to go thru that - reminds me of my own
raft trip in Nepal, Karnali River. They did the same on one
night, only it was a goat. It was absolutely horrible to
think that was happening on my raft trip, though it was
actually done at the nearby village. Also reminds me of
when I went yachting on the Med off the coast of Turkey and
the caption got out a spear gun to get some octopus. I feel
sick all afternoon thinking that he was stalking the poor
    creatures!

DORA - PLEASE CAN YOU POST THIS TO THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT
BOARD AS WELL. THAT IS WHERE ALL THE NEPAL BOUND FOLKS HANG
    OUT!!

Dora; I think you are sick. You should never impose your
lifestyle on anybody else.Non-vegetarians usually do not do
that.If you do not like the food do not eat it. I was on a
trans-Africa trip couple of years ago and four vegetarians
in the group managed to terorize the remaining sixteen
members. Who gave you the right to deprive other people in
your group of a dinner they were probably looking forward
    to?

I find bits of truth in all of the above statements, but I
have to laugh at the original post. I'm sure that the last
thing these expedition leaders care about is catering to the
politically correct westerners who in their minds are
exploiting their countries in the first place!

...I'm sure those domesticated birds thanked you for
releasing them to the wild where they struggled to survive
until eventually dying a slow painful death in the mouth of
some predator. If you don't like the customs of other
countries - keep your pale, emaciated body HOME!!

...some scientific studies have concluded that plants react
to various stimuli and even react to emotional "vibes" in a
room so they also fall into the category of "sentient
beings". So unless you are surviving on a diet of dirt and
dried pine needles, I recommend you grazers keep your
"animal rights" sermons to yourself. A bit of foi gras and
a plate of veal might do wonders for that lack of protein
that appears to be affecting your ability at logical
    thought.

    Self-righteous, homeopathic fanatic, multiple-pill-
swallowing, anemic-looking idiot. I know, I used to work
with one of her kind. If you love animals that much, then
don't wear shoes, belts, carry a leather handbag, or use
make-up. If I ever find one of your types in one of my
trips out in the boondocks, I swear I'll stuff your mouth
down with raw meat, you self-righteous cunt. Get off your
    high-horse.

....the fact that Dora posted a Nepal comment IN THE SE ASIA
SECTION!!!! I'm beginning to believe that the lack of
protein has a severe impact on those vegan nerve
synapses.....The rest of you, do the world a favor and EAT A
    VEGAN!!!

  10. Think a bit Added by: traveller

All respect to you vegetarians out there, if this is what
you believe in, fine. Some of my best friends are veggies.
But think a little about what you are doing out there on the
road in less developed countries. I was on Sumatra a few
years back, and several of us backpacking tourists visited a
local wedding. We were of course served their food, a
combination of rice, rendang (meat) and a vegetable which
also was made with some meat. One of the backpackers was a
vegetarian and refused to eat a morsel, and it was obvious
that the Indonesians took this very badly. They simply did
not understand it and thought their food was not good
enough. This veggie could at least, in a fit of tolerance,
have eaten a little plain rice!!!
