Way to Go?

Thanks to all you Filipinites who have given me so much info
about where to go and what to do. I'm off on August - and
will be using Cebu as my launching pad for some dedicated
island hopping over 3 weeks. Given that I'd like to spend
some time in Boracay, can anyone recommend a possible route
(I'd prefer to go by sea and land as I'm flying in and out
of Cebu). Any tips gratefully received. I've got 3 weeks
or so to do the round trip. Anything I should definitely
avoid? Scuba diving is not important to me, but great
beaches and waterfalls and snorkelling and non-resort type
accommodation is.
Looking forward to your help again.

... but flew back. It is possible to go from Cebu to
Boracay via land/boat but you are in for a long trip. Bus
from Cebu City to Toledo then ferry boat to island of
Negros then bus to Bocolod. Ferry boat to Iloilo on Panay
and then bus again up to Caticlan via Kalibo. Boracay is
just a short hop then from Caticlan. It is possible but
that is a very hard journey.

  2. how long? Added by: susyq

Thanks VM - but how long is long? Days, weeks? And why is
it hard? Just because you're on the road/sea? Strikes me
as a good way to see a few things. Any additional info
would be great. (Like how long are each of those trips?)

  3. I will try to remember Added by: vm

It was 1992 that I made this trip so I will try to give you
what I remember. From Cebu City to Toledo is a couple of
hours by bus. This is a regular bus service and the busses
can be full. Then another couple of hours on the ferry boat
over to Negros. I don't remember much of the trip up to
Bocolad as I slept most of the way. But it was quite a long
ways. The ferry boat from Bocolad to Iloilo I think was 4
or 5 hours and it was a great ferry boat. Clean and new.
Then it was maybe 8 hours up to Kalibo and another couple
    or 3 to Caticlan.
All the info. I read on this trip missed on the estimated
times by about 2 hours. If they said 6 hours it was more
like 8 or 9. I recommend, if you choose this root, to use 2
days. Go as far as Iloilo in 1 day and then onwards the
    next morning.
I remember the roads being very dusty and very rough. We
went in dec. and there had been no rain for quite a long
time so the roads were very rough and hard. The trip was
hard enough to convince me to fly back.

  4. why bother with long journeys that add little value to your time? Added by: cebuano

    Far easier way of going:
Sea from Cebu to Ilo ilo via Trans-Asia, a RORO vessel; its an overnight trip. Then from Ilo-ilo via public bus to Kalibo (by car, its 3 hours, bus, maybe 5?) Then jeepney to Caticlan. (less than an hour). Finally, a 20 minute boat ride to Boracay. Should be able to complete whole jourbey in 24 hours.

  5. back to the first question... Added by: aneil

does Boracay meet the description initially hoped for (good
    beaches, snorkeling, non-resort accomodations)?
also, what's the weather going to be like in August? lots of
    rain?
i'm looking for some ideas of places to go late summer.
    muchas gracias for any info!
