I am planning a trip this year that involves Kayaking from
Iquitos to the Mouth of the Amazon.I plan to stay only in
river communities or by hammock and mosquito net along the
way.All my food and provisions will be carried with me
except for luxuries.I plan to be as self sufficient as
possible and will be documenting this journey for possible
publication. My dillema is I am looking for a sponser to
provide me with a suitable Kayak with room for storage that
can be sent to Iquitos for the beginning of my trip.In
return the equipment sponser will get the Kayak back and
have great exposure in any publication I am involved in.As
well I would like to include information on the internet
describing my progress. If anyone can help me I would
appreciate it.My e-mail address will be posted soon but for
now leave me as much info and I will get back to you.

That sounds like an interresting trip, and I don't mean to
knock it al all, but why this focus on self sufficiency?
Seems to me it would be a lot more interesting to buy the
bulk of your supplies from villages along the way, so as
all the better to interact with the local yokels a bit. I
canoed down some rivers in Africa, including the Ubangui
and the Congo, and it gets pretty monotonous after awhile
unless you focus on interacting with the local people. I
certainly hope it works out for you- have a nice trip!

amazing. Why don't you buy the fucking kayak yourself
instead of whining for handouts. And as if this sort of shit
hasn't been done before. As if publishers are going to fall
over backwards. Go and crap in your own backyard, Mark.

You're going to carry everything EXCEPT luxuries? Where do
you expect to pick those up? Vice-versa, mate - try what
Steve suggests, and plan on supplying yourself along the
way, much more interesting. And as for returning the kayak
to the manufacturer at trips end....forget about it. I get
the feeling you may not have done much kayaking before
(which is in itself troubling) if you think it will be in
any salvagable shape after a trip like that. Best of luck,
tho. Might trying reading Redmond O'Hanlon's "In Trouble
Again" for a witty account of the river......

I have much expierience in the Kayak and outdoor fields.I
have read Don Starkells book,Paddle to the Amazon,Redmonds
book as well as Amazon Beaming and almost every amazon
related travel book printed. If I do not find a willing
supplier I will go anyway. And in reply to the person who
cannot even think up a name other than ... what exactly
makes you so bitter.I did not even say what the subject of
the book or publication was about. For over 10 years I have
dreamed of a trip that was unique and challenging and
whatever comes of it probably is of interest to many people
    outside of this web site.

I agree with your response to "..." (obviously he has no
life, so don't waste any more time thinking about a pitiful
    creature like him).
I don't know anything about kayak companies that would
sponsor you, but I have a couple of other ideas. 1) There
are retail stores in my area which sell kayaks AND have a
website. I bet they'd be glad to give you some equipment in
return for some publicity. 2) My canoe and kayak club has
sponsored a trip with help from our local newspaper, in
exchange for exclusive rights to print updates.
Anyhow, best of luck and have a great time! I live
vicariously hearing about adventures like yours!
