Hi there - I'm looking forward to visiting the Colca Canyon
on my travels to Peru. Is it worth doing it in 2 days or
can you do it in 1 day and see nearly everything?

    Hey,
I just got back from Peru/Bolivia and went to the Colca
Canyon. There's no way you can do it in a day. You'd be
missing out on a lot of highlights on the way. My tour
started from Arequipa and it took a day to reach Chevay,
which is really nice. The next day we continued on to Condor
Viewpoint where there really were Condors flying around. The
view of the canyon is lovely. But the Grand Canyon is more
    spectacular...................nevertheless, it's worth
seeing the deepest canyon in the world.
    have fun.

We spent 2 days and still felt rushed. It takes a while to
get there; if you spent just 1 day you would see almost
nothing and spend the whole time in the van. Also, the
altitude is quite something and you may want to give
yourself a day to get over the soroche. Coco leaves may
help, but chances are you'll still get a big head ache the
first day unless you are already fully aclimatized to the
high altitude. If you'd like some pictures please check out

I don't think there even is a way of doing it in one day, I don't think you can go there by yourself and tour companies offer two day tours as a standard.
The trip to Chivay takes about 5 hours across bumpy roads. You'll be happy to have time for bathing in the lovely hot springs and a good sleep in the hotel. Next day early rise&shine, on to the Ca±on past some villages and churches. Back to Arequipa 5 hours across the same bumpy road... but definitely worth it!! The condors are so huge, they are like motorless airplanes wooshing by!!

Definitely 2 Days - Chivay is lovely, I thought. We stayed
in The Colca Canyon Lodge - a superb secluded little place
with some simply amazing thermal springs to soak in after
the bumpy bus ride in and some small villages nearby to
wander through if you are that way inclined.
The Condors are astonishing, but get there early to see the
    most of them.
