Inca Trail excursions

My boyfriend and I are thinking about doing one of the
treks in Macchu Picchu. We do not want to end up doing some
lame, fancy, expensive trip. We are looking for a solid
hike that is cheap and reliable. Does anybody know of any
guides that they can recommend? We have two weeks and want
to stay in Peru after Macchu Picchu, any suggestions on
some other must sees? Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

The Official Peruvian Tourism Organization in Cusco near
the Plaza de Armas is very helpful. They have
    multi-lingual people to help you.
Don't book anything until you get to Cusco; this will save
you money. United Mice seemed to be pretty popular and
inexpensive when I was over there last September.
The Valle Sagrada is the most visited place in Peru. You
can spend as much or as little as you wish.
What to do really depends on what you like to do, and what
time of year you will go. You can hike in the Cordillera
Blanca, or see all sorts of archeological ruins in the
north, between Chiclayo and Trujillo. You can visit the sea
lions and penguins in Paracas (near Pisco), or take a flight
    over the Nasca lines.
I could go on and on. Get a guidebook and maybe this will
help you mix and match your wishes with what is out there.

  2. SAS travels Added by: simone (simonejans@hotmail.com)

If you are looking for a good travel agency to walk the
Incatrail go to SAS travels at the Plaza the armas. It will
cost you 80 dollars for four days. The food is perfect, the
guide speaks good English ( in case you need it) and their
tents are not leaking. The cheaper ones will charge you
about 60 dollars, but I heard stories about lack of food,
groups who left but finally didn't have tents or matrasses,
or where swimming in their beds because of holes in the
    tent.
During the weeks I was staying in Cuzco (about 3 weeks ago)
I always heard positive stories about SAS.
If you're coming from sealevel (your name seems to be
dutch), please take enough time to get used to the height.

also consider Lake Titicaca. From Puno you can go to the
islands of Amantani, Tequile and the Uros for 30 soles($9
US)including 3 meals and overnight accomadation. Isle de
Sol well worth it too, out of Copacabana (Bolivia). We
stayed at the Imperial in Puno, used the travel agency
there on the corner 3 seperate times for good results.
The tranquility of the big lake is beyond description.

Also consider visiting lake Titicaca. From Puno you can go
to the islands Amantani, Tequile and the Uros for 30 soles
(9 US$) which also includes 3 squares and accomadation for
a night w/local family. In Puno the Imperial near the train
station is a good bet, the travel agency on that corner
will hook you up, there cheap and on the level. We used
    them 3 times.
Big lake has tranquility beyond description. Get to Isle de
Sol out of Copa if time permits,as well.
