Lima on the 29th?

I'm arriving in Lima on evening of the 29th of June, which I
understand is their Independance day. Does anyone have any
ideas of what to do, accommodation and transport wise. Is
there any chance of getting a place to stay? Or would it be
best to move on (considering it will be 18:00 when I get
there). I then have 9 days to get to Quito to meet friends
any suggested routes? or would it be best to fly (if so how
much are flights?). I have a lot of time to travel back down
to Lima so maybe I should make the most of the journey then.
Thanks for your help.
Fiona

Housing should be fine in Lima, as everyone buggers off for this holiday...It is a four day weekend....
As for flights to Quito, I have seen them advertised for $178 rt, im not sure what one way prices are....You can now fly within Peru for $59 one way, anywhere, but seats at that price are limited....You may want to coinsider going North via bus or plane and hitting Huaraz,(mountains and amazing) Trujillo, Cajamarca, (two great colonial towns and ruins at ChanChan) and teh beach at Mancora, right near the Ecuador border...big backpacker hangout, and supposed to be great..Have not been yet, but will get there soon...You could fly to Trujillo and Piura (Mancora) or do buses to all....
As you are coming on a holiday weekend, i would try to make reservations as soon as possible, as things fill up quickly....
    have a great trip,
    cheers,
    dave

Contact Tony at: raymi_travels@perusat.net.pe . He and wife run a nice little B&B not far from the airport. The charge
about $15 for room, bath, breakfast, and airport pickup. I always stay there when in Lima.

    Thanks
