Just had a friend of mine visit me from Medellin and I must
say he was producing really bad farts...... Is this a true
reflection of the food from that region or does my friend
need to see a doctor??

  2. Paisa food Added by: Rickyfan

Well, as Peter says it's probably the food there which is
carbohydrate rich although it could have been due to food
which had not been cooked properly in Bogota. Because it's
at high altitude certain food (such as bacon) takes longer
to cook there than at lower altitudes. Hope I've been of
    some help!

your friend's farting was problably due to ingestion of red beans, which are a staple of the "paisa" diet. In Medellin, as well as other cities in Departamento de Antioquia the most typical dish is "bandeja paisa" which is tray with red beans, fried egg, fried bacon, arepa (Colombian corn meal bread), rice and sometimes, avocado. With such a heavy meal you'll always need a Mylanta Gas or other anti-flatulency medication. A Colombian medication that helps to digest heavy foods is Pankreoflat. You'll find it at any pharmacy it is produced by Schering laboratories.
